To obtain a building permit in Piatt County, complete the entire "Application for Building Permit" and submit to the zoning office along with a site plan, building plans and construction specifications.
BUILDING PERMIT FORMS
It is the policy of the County of Piatt and the DeWitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department to condition the issuance of any building permits upon the Health Departments approval of the plans and provisions for proper handling of water. If your construction involves a new water source or change of current use and/or a private sewage system you must contact the Health Department for approval and submit the following form to the Zoning office.
Health Department Certification of Approval
Construction must begin within 6 months of the issue date, and the permit is valid for two years. Minimum yard regulations as set out in Article VII of the Piatt County Zoning Ordinance must be adhered to. COST: The method of calculation for building permit fees is $12 per 100 square foot of new construction. Accessory buildings up to 2,000 square feet will be charged a flat fee of $50. The fee for accessory buildings larger than 2,000 square feet will be a maximum of $225.00.
The Piatt County Zoning Ordinance was adopted July 13, 2004 and first amended September 10, 2014 and again amended December 14, 2014. The current amendments to the ordinance were effective September 12, 2018.
